ASUU accuses FG of dishonouring agreements.

THE Federal Government has been accused of being insensitive to agreements on the revitalization of Nigerian public universities.
Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Yola Zone made the condemnation at a Press conference held at the N.U.J Press Centre, recently in Yola the Adamawa State capital.

Yola Zone comprises, Adamawa State University Mubi, Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola, Taraba State University Jalingo, University of Maiduguri and Yobe State University Damaturu.
Dr. Augustine Ndaghu co-ordinator of the zone stated that the union was not comfortable with the lukewarm attitude of the Federal Government to agreements reached According to ASUU, since the 2013 agreements reached with the Federal Government, only a few were addressed with several others unattended to such as the funding of universities for revitalization and pensions.
Others according to ASUU were staff salaries, Earned Academic Allowances (EAA) Treasury Single Account (TSA) and University's autonomy.
Also, there was the JAMB amendment, the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the National Minimum Standards and establishment of Institutions Act of 2014, budgetary allocation to education, renegotiation of the 2009 agreement as well as state of the state universities.
They were therefore also calling on the Federal Government to take immediate steps to alleviate hunger and deprivation plaguing the populace and the return of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to their areas.
