3,000 female farmers protest against herdsmen in Ebonyi.

Aggrieved by the destruction of their crops and farm lands by suspected herdsmen, about 3,000 women in Ebonyi State on Friday staged a peaceful protest to the palace of the traditional ruler of the community, HRH Ezego Moses Ngele.
The women, mostly elderly farmers are demanding that the herdsmen leave their community. They chanted solidarity songs and brandished green leaves as they urged the traditional ruler to prevail the herdsmen to stop using their cattle to destroy their crops.

N6m worth of Indian hemp seized by NDLEA.


The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Friday said it has confiscated a vehicle loaded with 35 sacks of Indian hemp weighing 1,244.4 kg in Kogi.
This was revealed by the NDLEA commander in the state, Alhaji Idris Bello who said the illegal substance worth N6million was intercepted near Kabba Junction on Lokoja-Abuja highway and a suspect, Stanley Duru has been arrested in connection to it.

Troops kill 2 notorious cultists in Imo.


The Nigerian Army said it has killed two notorious cultists during a raid in Umoubi and Umudike forests, in Ohaji Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State.
This was in a statement by Army spokesperson, Colonel Sani Usman on Friday. According to the statement, troops raided the camps in the forest belonging to two cult groups, De-Well and De-Gbam.

The statement also said a notorious cultist, Chigozie aka “Chi boy” who is the leader of one of the cult groups was killed.
Others escaped with gunshot wounds while the body of another suspected cult member was found in the forest.
The troops recovered some military uniforms, mobile telephones, and other household items, and then destroyed the camps.

90-year-old man arrested for crime committed 20 years ago.


The Nigeria Police Force on Friday arraigned a 90 year-old retired Soldier, Chief Damian Onwu, and a pastor before a chief magistrate court in Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital for fraudulent offences allegedly committed over twenty years ago.

Police arrest human trafficking syndicate in Delta state.


Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested a human trafficking syndicate who had been operating in Asaba and Okpanam communities, and rescued 12 out of the 15 children unharmed, according to Leadership.
Police image maker in the state, Celestina Kalu who confirmed the arrest said three other suspects were on the run.

Army destroys 74 illegal refineries, kidnappers camp.


The Nigerian Army has in the last two days destroyed seventy-four illegal refineries and some camps belonging to kidnappers.
This is contained in a statement released on Friday by the Army spokesperson Colonel Sani Usman.

Osun announces free train ride for Sallah celebrations.


The Osun state government has announced that it would be offering free train rides for those wishing to travel home for the Sallah holiday.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Industries, Commerce, Cooperatives and Empowerment, the free train ride commences conveyance of people coming for the festival from Lagos to Osogbo on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th September by 10 a.m. each day. The train will return to Lagos on Saturday, September 17. The take off time is 11 a.m.

Abandoned nine-month -old baby found crawling on Lagos road (photo)

Residents of Shodipo Crescent in the Ikeja Government Reserved Area of Lagos State were shocked on Wednesday to find an abandoned baby boy crawling on the road.



PUNCH Metro reports that the nine-month-old baby, whose name had yet to be ascertained, was seen crawling by residents, who quickly alerted some policemen on patrol in the area.

The child was picked up by the policemen and brought to the Lagos State Police Command headquarters, Ikeja. The baby was thereafter taken for a checkup.

The nine-month-old was believed to have crawled out of his parents’ apartment, although no resident
in the area had showed up for the baby boy.

A police source told PUNCH Metro that the child would remain in the police custody until his family showed up with concrete proofs of relationship. She said,
“We found the boy on Shodipo Crescent in the Ikeja GRA. He is about nine months old. He was found crawling on the road. Some residents thereafter alerted some policemen on patrol.
“The police team rescued the baby. So far, nobody has come up to claim the baby. He must have left the custody of his parents or guardian and that is how some children fall into the hands of kidnappers and ritual killers. He is still with us at the command headquarters.”

Plateau State will soon start exporting rice-- Lalong.


Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong has said the state will begin the exportation of rice by next year.
Lalong told State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Thursday after meeting President Muhammadu Buhari. “Plateau and Kebbi are now competing in rice production and by next year, we will start exporting rice from Plateau,” he said.

She has also reportedly been removed as the head of her late husband's ministry

Gov Masari allegedly buys 3000 coffins at N40k & distributes them to mosques


Blogger and public speaker, Jamil Maba took to Twitter to blast the Governor Masari of Katsina state for allegedly buying 3000  'coffins' worth N40,000 each and distributing them to mosques around the state, despite owing many months salaries.

Militant warlord arrested for recent pipeline destruction.

The Nigerian Army yesterday arrested one Gabriel Ogbudje, the suspected leader of Otugas Fire Force militant group which is responsible for the bombardment of an NPDC/Shoreline major delivery trunk line in Ughelli North LGA of Delta State last month.



Gabriel was arrested alongside Elvis Dweller Ejus along the Agbor-Abraka road in Edo State.

Five new cases of Lassa fever discovered in Plateau.


The Plateau State Health Commissioner, Dr. Kuden Kamshak on Tuesday said the state has reported four new cases of Lassa fever.
He disclosed this while speaking to journalists in Jos.
Kamshak said samples from the victims have been taken to Delta Sate for analysis and investigation.
He said two have tested positive to the virus out of the 10 cases discovered in the state.

Lassa fever scare unsettles UNIJOS community.

The University of Jos community has been thrown into confusion following the reported diagnosis of a student with the dreaded Lassa fever disease.

The student is the second victim in Plateau State out of the five recently isolated in four states by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control. Other states where the presence of the disease has been reported are Bauchi, Gombe and Rivers.

Driver knocks man down while distracted by phone call.


A company driver, Henry Uduze has allegedly killed a 37-year-old man, Effiong Etim, The Punch reports.
Effiong, a security guard was returning from work on his motorcycle when he was allegedly crushed to death by Uduze on Omole Estate Phase II.
According to eyewitnesses the suspect was receiving a telephone call when the incident happened.
The deceased gave up the ghost at the Accident and Emergency Centre at the tollgate area, Ikeja.
A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the driver attempted to flee the scene.

Police arrests suspect who robbed Lekki residents with toy gun.


The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 22-year-old suspected robber, Moses Akpan, for allegedly robbing residents of Oniru, in the Lekki area of the state with a toy gun, The Punch reports.
Upon his arrest on Thursday, the toy gun was recovered from the suspect Akpan, who hails from Akwa Ibom State, had allegedly dispossessed some residents of their valuables on Oniru Market Road around 2pm on Thursday.

3 children abducted by gunmen in Benue


The Benue Police Command has confirmed that three children between the ages of three and six have been abducted by gunmen in the Adeke area of Makurdi, Benue State.
